TIPS in Autocad 2000i 2D Drawing & 3D Modelling

LEVEL - 3D Beginner & 2D Beginner - Last updated 13/02/03

These tips show how to utilise Autocad tricks and techniques to simplify, speed up and develop your drawing efficiency. Typeable Commands are in uppercase and
ORANGE.

:: Easy Editing in 3DO (3D orbit)- To help editing, selecting & manipulating one part of a complex 3D model, if you select just the single part, then view it in 3D Orbit 3DO, it will only show you that single part, not the whole model. This is helpful when you don't want to turn off all the layers etc.

:: Using the 'TEXT WINDOW'- After drawing an object, such as below, you may want to know later on what dimension or size the taper was, or another critical detail not easily dimensioned.

An octagonal polyline EXTRUDEd with a 3 degrees taper.

Normally you may have 1,2 or 3 lines of text visible in the COMMAND line but it is handy to know how, what or when you drew something previously.

Hitting 'F2' will bring up the full text window, as below. It is now easy to see how, what and in what order I drew the solid.

:: Using 'PROPERTIES'- After drawing an object, such as below, you may want to know later on what dimension/size, layer, elevation, thickness etc the object was, or another critical property.

Hitting 'Ctrl+1' will bring up the PROPERTIES docker. You can 'dock' it as below.

You can 'float' it as below.

After attempting a routine and failing, it is worth using this to identify if you are using the correct object. When editing Solids and Surfaces they can look similar.

See the two similar looking objects below, the top one is a Rule surface, the other is a circle with thickness.

:: Using 'MATERIALS' 'TEXTURE NOT FOUND......'
Although you can apply materials or they are listed they don't render. Well no probs, you just need to add the component to your current installtion.

Goto CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE, select Autocad2000/2000i.

Goto > ADD/REMOVE features.

Goto > Texture maps & select 'entire feature........'

Now you should have all the textures/materials.
